Reportedly, a 99-member Indian Army medical team arrived in southern Turkey after a 5-hour drive to help people rendered homeless in sub-zero temperatures, traffic jams, waterlogged underpasses, buildings turned into concrete and rubble reached the earthquake-hit city of Iskenderun in Hatay province. After a long 8-hour flight from India, the Army's 60 Para Field Hospital unit landed in Turkey in two separate batches on Tuesday. After which the Indian team immediately left for Iskenderun.

On the biggest challenge for the team of trained paratroopers and soldiers, the officer said, 'I would say the biggest challenge is the weather - both for us and the people there. The temperature was around minus 2 degrees Celsius, plus the wind chill only added to the problem. Initially, the power shortage made it worse, although we had a generator. The Indian official said that we have now been able to get a power supply and packaged water is available to all.'

Lt Col Singh said that the response of the local population was a big boost for us. He told that 'A young man who saw us working and helping people told me that he would always remember India. Another doctor at the local hospital wondered why all his patients chose us. It was a mixed feeling. We were both embarrassed and happy. Such words keep inspiring us to move forward.'

Let us tell you that Turkey is an old friend of Pakistan and often talks against India at the international level, even on the issue of Kashmir, Turkey supports Pakistan as an Islamic country. Even after this, Hindustan following Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the whole world is one family) was the first country to send help to earthquake-hit Turkey.
