New Delhi: The central investigating agency, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), has carried out raids at 12 places, including Delhi and Kolkata, in connection with the high-profile National Herald case. The ED has also raided the office of the National Herald in Delhi. The probe agency had also recently questioned Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi in connection with the National Herald case. Not only this, earlier the investigating agency has also questioned Rahul Gandhi in this case. The Congress had created a huge uproar across the country opposing the ED's questioning.

It is being told that no one is present in the office of the National Herald except the security guard during the raid of ED. At the same time, Congress MP Uttam Reddy has said about the ED's action that it is shocking. It's nothing but political vendetta.

What is the National Herald case?

BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy had filed a petition in the trial court in 2012 alleging that some Congress leaders had wrongfully acquired Associated Journals Limited through Young Indian Limited (YIL). He had alleged that all this was done to capture the Rs 2,000-crore building of The Herald House, located on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in Delhi. Under the conspiracy, Young Indian Limited has been given the property rights of AJL.

Let us know that the first PM Jawaharlal Nehru along with the freedom fighters founded the National Herald in 1938. Associates Journals Limited (AJL) is the company owned by the National Herald newspaper. After which, the Congress had on February 26, 2011, taken over its liabilities of Rs 90 crore. This simply means that the Congress had given it a loan of 90 crores.   This was followed by the establishment of a Young Indian Company with Rs 5 lakh, in which Sonia and Rahul have a 38-38 per cent partnership. The remaining 24 per cent was held by Congress leaders Motilal Vora and Oscar Fernandez (both now deceased).

After this, nine crore shares of 10 crore rupees each of AJL were given to 'Young Indian' and in return, the Young Indian had to pay the Congress debt. With 9 crore shares, Young Indian got 99 per cent of the shares of this company. After this, the Congress party also waived off a loan of 90 crore. That is, 'Young Indian' got the ownership of AJL for free.
