Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is in trouble once again over the irrigation scam. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started an investigation into money laundering by Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation over suspected irregularities in awarding irrigation contracts.

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Maharashtra gave a clean chit to Deputy CM Ajit Pawar in December last year in connection with alleged irregularities related to 12 projects under Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation. Ajit Pawar was the deputy CM in CM Devendra Fadnavis's cabinet. After getting a clean chit, he resigned from Fadnavis's cabinet in a very dramatic manner.

According to the sources, the Nagpur unit of ED has started the investigation of Gosikhurd project in Bhandara district. Its investigation is based on the cases filed by the ACB. Deputy CM Ajit Pawar also handled the Water Resources Development Department between the main departments when the Congress and NCP alliance remained in power from 1999-2009. Ajit was also the chairman of Vidarbha Irrigation Development Corporation. In which irrigation projects were approved. Later, allegations of irregularities were made.
