As Eid al-Fitr comes on Thursday, 11 April 2024,  several states and cities are gearing up for dry days. In Delhi, the excise department has announced five dry days, including Eid, Ram Navami, and Mahavir Jayanti.

In Delhi, liquor stores will remain closed on April 11 for Eid, April 17 for Ram Navami, and April 21 for Mahavir Jayanti. Additionally, due to the Lok Sabha election, liquor sales will be banned from 6 pm on April 24 to 6 pm on April 26 in the border areas of Uttar Pradesh.

About Eid al-Fitr:

Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It marks the end of the month-long Ramzan fasting period and the beginning of Shawwal.

The festival holds great significance, especially in the tradition of moon sighting, which has been integral to Islamic culture. According to belief, Prophet Muhammad awaited news of sightings of the crescent moon, signaling the start of a new month.
