Lucknow: The Election Commission has asked Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav to prove and produce evidence of allegations made in public forums that the Election Commission (EC) has deliberately deleted 20,000 names of voters belonging to Yadav and Muslim communities in almost all UP assembly constituencies at the behest of the BJP. The Election Commission has given SP president Akhilesh Yadav time till November 10, 2022, to produce evidence.

The ECI has also asked to present assembly-wise data of such a large number of names being deleted so that necessary action can be taken. Akhilesh Yadav was elected as the national president for the third time at the SP's national convention held in Lucknow on September 29, 2022. During his address at the conference, he said that the State Election Commission has removed about 20,000 names of Yadav and Muslim voters from the voters' list in each assembly constituency of Uttar Pradesh.

The State Election Commission has done this work at the behest of the BJP. If it is investigated, it will be known whose names have been removed. He also said that the ECI has disappointed the most. He had said, 'I had great faith in the Election Commission. The Election Commission was biased in counting the votes of the booths. Openly helped BJP. So now we have to be very strong at the booth level.'
