New Delhi: The Election Commission has released the revised guidelines for political parties and candidates for nomination. There has been a change in the timing of publicity of their criminal records by political parties and candidates. According to this, political parties will have to inform their candidates and independents about their criminal background thrice on newspapers and television.

First Publicity: Information has to be given within the first 4 days of the last date for withdrawal of nomination.
Second publicity: Within 5 to 8 days of the last date for withdrawal of nomination, information has to be given.
Third publicity: When there are 9 days left in the election campaign, then this information has to be given before the election campaign ends. Election campaigns stop two days before voting.

The Commission said that while candidates fielded by the parties are winning unopposed, they will also have to give information about the criminal background in a similar manner. The formats and instructions issued in this regard have also been published. The Election Commission believes that this process will spread awareness among voters, parties and candidates. This will give voters an opportunity to choose.
