New Delhi: Pravasi Bharatiya (NRI) voters living abroad will not get a chance to vote in the assembly elections in five states in March and April. Indian voters will not be given the facility of an electronically transmitted postal ballot system in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry assembly elections. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora has given information about this.

The government wants the Election Commission to consult various stakeholders before facilitating them. When asked whether the facility of ETPBS would be provided to expatriate voters in the assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora categorically stated said nothing. Sunil Arora further said, 'As far as the NRI voters are concerned, the Election Commission has sent a very sensitive and very positive note to the Law Ministry about one and a half months ago to find a way out for it.'

The Law Ministry referred the matter to the Ministry of External Affairs. Sunil Arora said that I also talked to the Foreign Secretary. He has responded in detail and has said that we should have a comprehensive meeting with the stakeholders. He said that the meeting can be held within a month.
