Premananda Shetty and Sumangala Rao of the ruling BJP were elected as the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively, of Mangaluru in the election conducted on Tuesday.
BJP’s Premanand Shetty and Congress’ Anil Kumar had submitted their nomination for the position of Mayor and the mayor was elected based on an open vote that was cast through the raising of hands.
Along with sixty members, MP, and local MLA’s, there were a total of 64 voters during the Mayoral election. Among them, 46 voted for Premanand Shetty, while Anil Kumar got 14 votes.
For the position of Deputy Mayor, Sumangala Rao and Jacintha Vijay Almeida had submitted nominations. In the vote proceedings, Sumangala received a total of 46 votes while Jacintha received 14 votes. The two members from the SDPI remained neutral throughout the proceedings.
Additional DC M.J Roopa and Joint Commissioner Dr. Santhosh Kumar were present. MLA Vedavyas Kamath and Dr. Bharath Shetty participated in the Mayoral election and voted during the proceedings.
