Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for MSME and Road and Transport Highways, has distributed electric potter wheels to 100 potter families in Nanded and Parbhani districts of Maharashtra via video conferencing. It is a big step towards empowerment with KumharSashaktikaranYojana of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The distribution virtually was done on Wednesday and the beneficiaries will be given 10 days training by KVIC.

The potters from 15 villages, 10 villages in Nanded and 5 villages in Parbhani districts get benefited. This will benefit atleast 400 members of the people who depend on the pottery for their survival, by increasing the productivity and the income, the dream of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to empower the marginalized potters community and reviving the dying art of pottery.
Gadkari praised KVIC saying this is the first ever approach to strengthen and improve the living of potters in the country since independence.

The scheme will further be implemented in other remote areas of Maharashtra and other states says Gadkari. The artisans who has received the machinery expressed their happiness during interaction with the minister. They said the productivity increased 3-4 times and their earning also increased. KVIC Chairman Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena, said that more than 18,000 electric chaaks have so far been distributed across the country benefiting 80,000 people. The average income rose upto INR 10000 from 3000. He added KVIC no matter what, but will achieve its goal to empower every potter in the country.
