New Delhi: Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Jairam Gadkari said on Monday that more than 1.4 crore Fastag (fast tags) have been issued by 28 January 2020 this year. But he said that the fast tag awareness program is being run through various platforms including social media. Where Nitin Gadkari gave this information to the Rajya Sabha in a written answer. He said that the government had announced in July 2019 that all the lanes except one lane would be made fast tag lanes of the duty plaza from December 1, 2019 on the National Highway Fee Plaza. He said that this period was later extended to 15 December.

At the same time, Gadkari said that keeping in mind the request of the National Highways Authority of India (NHI) and inconvenience to the citizens, the government decided that 25 percent of fast tag lanes would be temporarily replaced for 15 days from 15 December 2019. Can be converted into hybrid lane with the approval of the concerned Regional Officer. He said that after this it was decided to relax the conditions related to the announcement of fast tag fee lane for 30 days from 15 January 2020 on only 65 fee plazas of NHI so as not to inconvenience the citizens.

It has been learned that Gadkari said that these 65 fee plazas have been allowed to operate as hybrid (cash cum fast tag) lanes up to 25 percent of all charges during this period. For the remaining fee plazas, this arrangement has been implemented as per the mandate. He said that till January 28 this year, more than 1.4 crore fast tags have been issued. He said that FASTag awareness program is being conducted through various platforms like social media, print media, hoardings, advertisements etc.
