Encounter breaks out between security forces and militants in Kulgam

On Wednesday early morning, a fierce encounter broke out between militants and security forces in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. This is the second operation which has taken place in South Kashmir in last 24 hours. According to early reports, one terrorist has been killed while four others have been cornered. 

A police official said a search operation was going on in Kulgam district when the gunfight broke out. The joint operation by police and army began after the terrorists opened fire when the forces were conducting a search operation. Kashmir police zone tweeted, “Exchange of #fire between #securityforces & #terrorists at #Kulgam. Further details shall follow.”

At least two or three terrorists are believed to be trapped in Tazipora of Mohammadpora area of the district and gunfight is underway. The mobile and internet services have been suspended in the district as a precautionary measure.

On Tuesday encounter, two JeM militants were killed in a gunfight which took place in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
