VIENNA: According to Enrique Mora, deputy secretary-general of the European External Action Service (EEAS), political decisions must be made to stop the Vienna talks on restoring the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

"In the coming days, political decisions must be made to bring the Vienna discussions to a close. The rest is just background noise "On Twitter, Mora stated.

In the Vienna talks, Mora is serving as the European Union's coordinator. His remarks come after Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh claimed in Tehran on Monday that Iran and the West still had few issues.

"The rapid deal is available if the US attitude is realistic," Khatibzadeh remarked. He did stress, though, that Iran will never agree or comply to a negotiation timeframe.

"'Expert level talks' are no longer available. Neither 'formal meetings' nor 'informal gatherings.' "Mora said this in response to rumours of more such gatherings.

Iran signed the landmark Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council: China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, plus Germany) and the EU in 2015.
