New Delhi: UAE-based NRI businessman CC Thampi, considered close to Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Thampi is accused of getting many defense deals done in India. He also made illicit wealth in many places in India including Dubai. According to information from the ED, Sanjay Bhandari and CC Thampi were also named in Robert Vadra's London property. Earlier, ED has also questioned Thampi many times.

According to media reports, Vadra is accused of buying a property in London through shell companies from commissions received in defense deals in 2009-2010. On the other hand, Thampi is a native of the southern state of Kerala and laid the foundation of the Holiday Group in 1981. Thampi, the owner of Holiday Group, has offices in the UAE and India.

ED is investigating three companies of Thampi for violation of FEMA regulations. His name has cropped up in several illegal property deals. Earlier in March 2019, Union Minister Smriti Irani was also accused of stalling and Bhandari for interfering in defense and petroleum deals in the UPA government.
