New Delhi: In the matter of renaming the name of Prayagraj, the religious city of Uttar Pradesh, today, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Yogi Government of UP asking them to respond. This petition has been filed in the top court by an NGO called the Allahabad Heritage Society. This petition has been filed against the decision of Yogi Adityanath government of UP, under which Allahabad was named Prayagraj.

After the decision was approved, Allahabad was officially renamed as Prayagraj.

This demand was made by the saints of Prayagraj. The saints said that the ancient name of the city of Kumbh was Prayagraj, but the Mughal invaders changed its name to Allahabad. The saints had urged the UP government to make it Prayagraj again. Accepting this demand, the Yogi government named it Prayagraj.
