New Delhi: With immediate effect, Alex Hales has announced his retirement from international cricket. The batter for England has ended a nearly 12-year international playing career.

Hales made his England debut in a T20I match against India in August 2011 and has since played in 75 T20Is, 70 ODIs, and 11 Tests.

His greatest success came in the T20 format, where he excelled with his aggressive playing style and in 2012 came within one run of becoming England's first-ever T20I century.

Hales quits from international cricket as the T20 World Champion, having made a significant contribution to England's successful campaign in 2022.

Hales scored an incredible 86* against India in the semi-final to propel his team to the final.

It also gives Hales the freedom to commit to his franchises and confirms his availability for franchise cricket throughout the world.

Hales chose to participate in the Pakistan Super League instead of the England tour of Bangladesh earlier this year, and he was likely to do so again later this month.

Before 2022, Hales holds the distinction of being the top scorer for England in two of its highest ODI totals: 171 of the team's 444 runs against Pakistan in 2016 and 147 of the team's 481 runs against Australia in 2018. Since then, England has defeated Netherlands 498 times, with an XI without Hales.

Hales, who has played in 405 T20 matches for more than ten franchises and England, was once the best T20 batter in the world and continues to be one of the most in-demand players.

He has amassed over 11,000 runs in the format at a stunning strike-rate of 147.
