If you spend 10 rupees in the summer days and drink fruity, Mazaa, Real or any other juice drink, then now in the coming days, it is going to stop showing up in the shops. Or maybe their prices will go up. We are saying this because single-use plastic is going to be banned from July 1, 2022, across the country. So far, the plastic spoons, bowls, cups and glasses that we use from straws, all of them will be banned. And in such a situation, the companies making soft drinks have started to worry about increasing the price of the 10-rupee pack or closing it. You must have known that many soft and juice drink companies in the country sell Treta packs for a price of just Rs 10 and along with them, people are also given a straw to drink juice. However, now single-use plastic, including straws, is going to be banned.

In such a situation, there is no suitable option in front of the companies. One option is that of paper straw, but it is not manufactured on a large scale in India. Because of this, companies are also having problems. On the other hand, one of the reasons for the problems of the companies is that if they import paper straws from Indonesia, China and Malaysia, then it will increase their cost. In this affair, companies are afraid that the price of these Treta packs will have to be increased by more than 10 rupees or this pack will have to be discontinued. In fact, companies argue that if they import paper straws, their cost will go up by 278 per cent.

While bringing compostable straws made from starch will increase the cost by 259 per cent. Some companies have demanded the government to extend this ban by 6 months. In fact, he says that the plastic ban will have a wrong effect on the business of the FMCG industry. Then we are in support of the government banning the use of plastic straws. In such a situation, the postponement of this, for the time being, will help the packaging companies to create suitable infrastructure for making paper straws at the domestic level. However, according to an estimate, the country's renowned companies together sell six billion juice boxes with plastic straws in the country every year. About 60 percent of the juice sales of the companies come from the sale of these small packets.

Which items will be banned - Once used plastic is considered to be very harmful to the environment. And these plastic products cause harm to the environment for a long time. In view of this loss, in August 2021, the Union Environment Minister had issued a notification regarding the ban. And it was asked to ban all such items from July 1. A notice has been issued by the CPCB to all the parties concerned. In fact, it says that by June 30, all the preparations for the ban on these items should be completed.

From July 1, there are earbuds with plastic sticks, balloon sticks, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, thermocol used in decorations, etc. It also includes cutlery items like plastic cups, plates, glasses, forks, spoons, knives, straws, trays, plastics to be put on sweet cartons, plastic invitation letters, and PVC banners with a thickness of less than 100 microns, etc. The CPCB notice has warned the violators of strict action. In fact, it includes actions like sealing of products, imposing penalties for environmental damage, and shutting down the industry rooted in their production. On the other hand, environmental experts say that single-use plastic is neither easily destroyed nor recycled. Not only this, but secondly, the nanoparticles of this plastic dissolve and pollute the water and land.

Thirdly, they not only harm aquatic organisms but are also the cause of choking of drains. Apart from this, the CPCB has also asked to ban the production, distribution, sale and use of these items to all products, stockists, shopkeepers, e-commerce companies, street vendors, malls, markets, shopping centres, cinema halls, tourist locations, schools, colleges, office complexes, hospitals and other institutions and the general public. In fact, they were asked to ensure that their stock is exhausted by June 30 so that the ban can be implemented completely from July 1. The Environment Ministry had issued a notification in August 2021 banning the use of single-use plastic. After this, all single-use plastics will be banned in the country from July 1, 2022.
