BRUSSELS: The European Union member states' foreign ministers have agreed to provide Ukraine with an additional 500 million euros (USD 507,7 million) in military aid.
Following the Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Josep Borrell, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said in a news rence in Brussels that the Ministers had agreed to tighten the sanctions on Russia and close the gaps in the current regulations.
The decision was made following a video briefing on the latest developments by Ukraine's foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, as per state media reports.
According to Borrell, the Ministers "unanimously agreed" that Ukraine must be supported strongly going forward. The entire amount of military aid provided by the bloc is currently 2.5 billion euros.
He noted that the Ministers also reviewed the most recent proposal from the European Commission to restrict the entry of Russian gold and modify the length of the sanctions. The ambassadors of the member states, he said, will talk about the measures this week.
