
New Delhi: Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission (EU) is all set visit India on February 27-28 by the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. von der Leyenwill be joined by the European Union College of Commissioners.
This will be her third visit to India. She previously visited in April 2022 for an official trip and again in September 2023 for the G20 Summit. Over the years, she and PM Modi have also met at various global meetings.
For the first time, the entire EU College of Commissioners will visit India together. This is also one of the first major visits of the new European Commission since it took office in December 2024, following the European parliamentary elections in June 2024.

During her visit, she will hold official talks with PM Modi. There will also be meetings between Indian and European ministers, including the second ministerial meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC).
Notably, the European Union and India have been strategic partners since 2004. Their relationship has grown in many areas, and this visit aims to further strengthen their cooperation.
The second TTC meeting will focus on digital infrastructure, green technology, trade, and investment. Top EU officials, including Vice-President Virkkunen, High Representative Kaja Kallas, and Commissioners Maros Sefcovic and Ekaterina Zaharieva, will attend.
President von der Leyen’s visit comes after she announced a new strategic agenda for India-EU relations, which will be introduced at this year's EU-India Summit. The visit highlights the importance of stronger cooperation between India and Europe in areas crucial for economic growth and security.

The European Union (EU) earlier said that both India and the EU, as the world’s two largest democracies, are committed to a global system based on rules, strong international cooperation, and sustainable growth.
The EU is India’s biggest trading partner, with trade in goods reaching 124 billion-Euro in 2023, almost 90% more than ten years ago. There are over 6,000 European companies operating in India, creating 1.7 million jobs directly.
India and the EU restarted talks for a free trade agreement in 2022, and the next round of negotiations will take place in Brussels from March 10 to 14.
