According to Nasa, it has discovered the single largest finding of planets to date and it become possible due to NASA's Kepler mission that was launched in 2009.

It has confirmed that NASA have found around 1,284 new planets that has nearly doubled the number of planets located by the Keppler mission.

Here are facts about the discovery by NASA:-

1.A total of 4,302 potential planets have been discovered by the Kepler spacecraft.

2. According to NASA, around 1,284 planets qualify as a planet. A potential planet needs to satisfy at least 99 percent of the criterion to be called a planet.

3. 1,327 celestial bodies out of the 4,302, are still falling short in a few parameters and will require further research to confirm them as planets.

4. The remaining 707 celestial bodies do not qualify as planets.

5. With the latest findings, scientists have found a total of 21 planets that can hold liquid and hence can harbour life.

6. Out of these planets, 550 planets are found to be rocky like Earth and out of these 550, 9 fall in the Goldilocks zone, i.e. they fall in the zone which is not too cool or too hot for the planet to contain liquid.
