After the announcement of board exam results, a 15-year-old boy hanged himself to death in UP's Sultanpur last month is not a new thing.  Such incidents we come across irrespective of states, after once the exam results announced.  According to the latest NCRB data, India recorded a new high of 12,526 suicides by students. The percentage has sharply risen by 21.19 percent since 2019.

A day after Class 12 results were announced and two 'failed' students committed suicide, with eight others having reportedly attempted suicide, a sitting Judge of the Madras high court has issued an appeal to the students saying “Do not commit suicide for 'failure' in exams, I failed five times in my examinations but became a judge.”

The story of Tushar Mehta, the district collector of Bharuch, Gujarat, came to the media recently. He reportedly scored 36 out of 100 in Maths, 35 in English and 38 in Science in class 10th. The school authorities judged him to be incapable of succeeding in life with such low standards in academics. But he was undeterred and continued his studies and cleared the UPSC exam and got IAS. These are a few of the lessons for children to learn and defeat their failures.

Role of Parents in Education of Their weaker Children: There are many students who depressed and blame themselves for failing exams and getting poor grades. There are also children who run away thinking that they will be bad in front of others.  Every parent naturally wants their child to come first.  Parents are tensed even when it comes to their children studying in LKG. Most of the parents want their son and daughter to get into higher jobs like others without knowing their child's aptitude.

India study channel projects that the parents should never take any severe step after the child has already failed. The parents should be co-operative to their children after they fail in the examination. Some students commit suicide due to the fear of parents. Parents can’t change the destiny of the children after their child has failed. Let the parents prevent the rate of failures instead of punishing them when they fail in the examination. The parents should be made aware that they should be stricter with their children before the period of examinations. If the parents can punish so harshly after the children fail then let them question themselves that if they have taken any step to prevent failures? If the child is depressed due to failure in examination, then they should console them to relieve them out of depression. The child truly needs you if he or she is depressed with the failure. Parents must teach the children to become bold and face the problems in a better way.

Parents have a great role in determining the future of their children and enabling them to move forward without getting discouraged by defeats. Children should be brought up according to their ability, taste and will. Trying to develop a talent they don't have, forcing them to choose an area of study that they are not interested in, may backfire.  Education should be seen as a means of personal development and shaping self-perceptions rather than as a means of getting a job.

Today's generation is growing up in a competitive world. A small failure is enough to depress them. Many parents send their children to well-equipped schools, giving them great facilities at an early age. At the same time, they are not given the opportunity to experience difficulties and hardships in life. Such children will not have the mental development to tolerate and accept even small failures in the future.

“The loser” is not a fixed label. It's just a situation that can happen to anyone at some point. It is not always possible to succeed in everything, and those who score high in exams do not necessarily succeed in life. Failure is part of life. If such steps are handled judiciously, one may achieve better results than expected in the future. History abounds where those who try to find and overcome the causes of failure have fared better than those who have consistently won. Failure is a stepping stone to success.

The keystone of success is the fortitude and determination to move forward with the awareness that exams are not the end of life and that life is long.
