Satna: On the second day of Deepawali in Chitrakoot, Satna, Madhya Pradesh, this time too, a donkey fair was organized. The names of the most expensive donkeys sold in the fair are being called  Salman and Shahrukh, in return, their owners were given one lakh and 90 thousand rupees. The rest of the donkeys were sold for Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000.

The speciality of this fair is that it was started by Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. Chitrakoot Nagar Panchayat of Satna district is organizing this fair. This time traders from not only Madhya Pradesh and UP but also from Bihar, Chhattisgarh and other states had come to this fair. More than  5000 donkeys and mules had come to the fair to sell. Interestingly, more crowds are being found for this fair than those who buy and sell donkeys.

Donkeys and mules had an important contribution to the Mughal armies. Aurangzeb also ordered donkeys and mules for his army from the fair of Chitrakoot. This is increasing its importance even more. Many traders name their donkeys after movie stars and this identity makes them special from the common. Advanced varieties of donkeys and mules are coming to sell in this fair.

Entry fees also have to be paid to sell donkeys in the donkeys' fair. The Chitrakoot Nagar Panchayat starts charging an entry fee of Rs 300 for each donkey. Similarly, one has to pay Rs 30 for a peg. After this, bids are made for donkeys and the price is decided only by looking at the breed and health of the donkey. On average, three to four thousand donkeys are sold in this fair every year.
