Some reports on Monday buzzed that Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev’s company Patanjali was planning to make an entry in the telecom sector and had announced a special tie with BSNL for special Swadeshi SIMs with a new Rs 144 plan.

However, now it has been confirmed today that the aforesaid BSNL and Patanjali partnership is only for employees of the company and connected organizations. Patanjali and Baba Ramdev are not coming into the telecom sector to launch their own ‘Swadeshi’ SIM cards.

As per the reports of a press release from Patanjali, the new BSNL plan of Rs 144 will offer its employees unlimited calls on local and STD, roaming on all sectors, 2GB of data per day along with 100 SMS free per day. Now Patanjali has confirmed that the plan is limited to just employees of the company.

Patanjali has issued a statement saying it was wrong to say that the company was planning to cross the threshold of the telecom sector.

The official release added, “Patanjali has collaborated with BSNL for low rate calls, and other benefits, for its own workers across the country.”

In addition the official press release said that Patanjali’s SIMs is under the company’s ‘Swadeshi’ initiative, which promotes the use of products and services from India. Patanjali claims the internal partnership with BSNL will further advance the company’s ‘Swadeshi’ initiative.
