Several farmer outfits have come forward to support the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) woman constable who allegedly slapped Bollywood actor and BJP MP-elect Kangana Ranaut during a security check at the Chandigarh airport. The incident occurred just two days after Ranaut was elected to the Lok Sabha from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha are among the prominent farmer organizations expressing their solidarity with the CISF constable. They have called for a thorough investigation into the incident, emphasizing the need for justice to be upheld.
The constable, visibly upset over Ranaut's stance on the farmers' protests, has been suspended, and an inquiry has been initiated by the CISF. Additionally, a court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate the matter further.
Leaders of the SKM (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher, have announced plans to meet with Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, to ensure a fair investigation. They emphasized the importance of justice for the constable involved in the incident.
"We will demand a thorough investigation and urge that no injustice be done to the woman constable," Dallewal stated during a press conference, joined by Pandher and other farmer leaders.
A protest march, titled "Insaaf March," is scheduled for June 9 in Mohali, leading to the Senior Superintendent of Police's office. The march aims to demand justice for the constable involved in the incident.
In response to the incident, Kangana Ranaut posted a video statement titled "Shocking rise in terror and violence in Punjab" upon her arrival in Delhi. She reassured her safety but expressed concerns about terrorism and extremism in Punjab.
Ranaut alleged that the constable approached her aggressively during the security check, hitting her in the face and abusing her. The constable, in a video circulating on social media, claimed that Ranaut had previously made derogatory remarks about farmers and their protests, which had offended her.
The constable's brother, based in Kapurthala, revealed that they learned about the incident through media reports. He highlighted his sister's 15-year service in the CISF, where she has served in various locations, including Kerala, Chennai, and Amritsar.
Dallewal and Pandher accused Kangana Ranaut of hurting sentiments with her comments against farmers and Punjabis in the past. They criticized her remarks about terrorism and extremism in Punjab, calling for legal action against her.
"We demand that a case should be filed against Ranaut for her remarks, and the courts should take suo motu cognizance of her statements," Dallewal asserted, criticizing Ranaut for her language and demanding action against her.
The farmer leaders also criticized the BJP and its handling of farmers' issues, stating that recent election results have shown the public's discontent. They cited losses in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan as indicators of the public's dissatisfaction with the government's policies during the farmers' protests.
