Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Friday resigned from the post of National Conference president. Addressing his party workers in Srinagar, Abdullah said his health no longer allows him to lead the party. The new party president will now be elected on December 5. However, it is expected that Farooq's son Omar Abdullah will be unanimously elected president.

According to reports, National Conference spokesman Tanveer Sadi has confirmed Farooq Abdullah's resignation.
