Finance Minister Asks Banks To Train Officials In Local Languages To Service Customers Better

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has asked banks to prepare officials who are well aware of local languages. She said that it is necessary to provide better service to the customers.  She said that doing so would be conducive to other All India services such as administrative services. This was stated by the Finance Minister while launching a uniform training programme for public sector bank officials.

According to reports, she said that banks' claims that they have all-India access. In some parts of the country where Hindi are not used, bank officials still do not understand the need to learn local languages, while it can serve customers better. "We have to prepare employees who understand the language of the state of their postings," she said.

Pointing out that the recruitment in banks is on an all-India basis, she said that if the posting of such officers takes place in the interior of a non-Hindi speaking state, they will not be able to negotiate in local language.  "We have come to know about a number of cases where stress situation at the branch level was created many times only because the authorities could not speak local languages," said finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
