FIR lodged against 49 celebrities who wrote letters to PM Modi against mob lynching

New Delhi: After the Modi government came to power, there has been a tremendous increase in incidents of mob lynching. Because of this, the central government came under the target of the intellectual sections of all the society including the opposition. Against this, 50 big personalities of the country wrote an open letter to PM Modi. Now an FIR has been registered against them. It includes 49 people including film directors Mani Ratnam, Aparna Sen, Shyam Benegal and Shubha Mudgal. These people had written an open letter to PM Modi expressing their concern about the incidents of rampant violence in the country. However, there has also been a statement from the government on this issue.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that no such case has been registered by the government. The government says that "we have not filed an FIR on our behalf against the 49 people who have written this open letter against PM Modi". The case was registered on Thursday after an order was passed two months ago by Chief Judicial Magistrate Suryakant Tiwari on a petition by local lawyer Sudhir Kumar Ojha. The CJM court passed the order on 20 October. Sudhir Kumar Ojha on whom an FIR was lodged at Sadar Police Station today, on receipt of which my petition was accepted.

Ojha pointed out that in the signature of the letter, he was named as an accused in his petition, in which he allegedly tarnished the country's image and tried to curtail the PM's impressive performance. Also supported separatist tendencies. Police have said that an FIR was registered under sections of the IPC, including charges such as sedition, relating to public nuisance, insulting with intent to hurt religious sentiments and breach the peace.
