Jammu: Avian influenza has been confirmed in the samples of 3 dead birds in the Udhampur and Poonch districts of the Jammu region, after which the work of killing birds on a large scale has started to take place even more rapidly. 

DD Dogra, Deputy Director (Poultry and Research), Animal Husbandry Department of Jammu said that H5N8 has been confirmed in the samples of a peacock and a domesticated hen in the Jugnu block of Udhampur. At the same time, infection of H5N1 in 1 wild crow in Mandi, Poonch was confirmed. Dogra said that this is the first case of infection from the Jammu region, but there is no need to panic as most of the results of the investigation have not confirmed the infection yet.

Continuing her talk, Dogra said that the ministry has so far collected 218 samples and sent them to Jalandhar in Punjab for examination. He said that in addition to three cases of infection reported in Udhampur and Poonch, 115 samples were not confirmed in the investigation, while reports of other samples were awaited. According to the information received, the department is taking the necessary steps to prevent the infection from spreading. Dogra said that after the bird flu infection was detected in the investigation of a chicken and a peacock, we have started killing birds in a one-kilometer area and monitoring in a range of one to 10 kilometers. People are also being informed.
