KIEV:  Russian authorities have accused Ukraine of carrying out an air strike on a Russian oil station, BBC reports. Ukraine has yet to claim responsibility for the attack near the Ukrainian border in Belgorod; if true, it would be the first time Ukrainian planes have flown into Russian airspace to strike a target, bringing the fight closer to home.

Ukrainian helicopter pilots are well-versed in flying low and quickly in order to escape detection by military radar and air defense systems. For years, they have been doing just that in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.

However, if the reports are true, flying at night, deep into Russian territory, to attack an enemy fuel station would have needed remarkable daring, as well as perfectly polished flying skills.

This supposed attack will have little impact on the struggle. However, according to the BBC, it might demonstrate that Ukraine has kept its air force operational and provide a tremendous boost to the military's morale.

A fire near apartment towers in Belgorod, around 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the Ukrainian border, is shown in a video published on Twitter. Rockets appear to be striking the oil depot in several clips. "There was a fire at the oil depot because of an air strike carried out by two Ukrainian army helicopters, which invaded Russian territory at low altitude," local governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said in a Telegram message. He went on to say, "Nobody was killed."
