Guwahati: The first-ever meeting of the Sustainable Finance Working Group commenced on Thursday, February 2, in Assam's Guwahati as part of India's year-long G20 presidency.

The event is slated to take place on February 2 and 3. More than 94 delegates from G20 member nations, guest nations, other international organisations, as well as representatives from the Indian government, will attend. One Earth. One Family. One Future is the G20's theme, and its credo is "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam."

Addressing the event, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said that the meeting would bring out ways to achieve sustainable goals, agenda and objectives of the Paris agreement.

"This particular group will present a road map for utilising sustainable financing for deserving projects. For people all over the world, this meeting of the Sustainable Finance Working Group's first meeting is crucial. We intend to remove barriers to achieving the sustainable goals, agenda, and objectives of the Paris Agreement following this two-day meeting "said Sonowal.

In order to promote the transition to greener, more resilient, and inclusive society and economies, the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group works to mobilise sustainable finance.

Four sessions will be held over the course of the two days of the meeting to discuss the three main topics of mechanisms for timely and adequate resource mobilisation for climate finance, enabling finance for the Sustainable Development Goals, and building ecosystem capacity for financing toward sustainable development.

Three SFWG classes and a yoga session are on the first day's schedule. According to authorities, the first day's activities will conclude with a river cruise, "Ratri bhoj par samvaad," and a cultural performance.

They added that the second day's schedule would also include a yoga session, three side event sessions, the fourth SFWG session, and a dinner for attendees at the Brahmaputra Heritage Center.

The theme of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," which translates to "One Earth, One Family, One Future," captures the heart of India's G20 Presidency.

The topic emphasises the idea of interconnection and environmentally friendly change to support a pro-life planet with a people-centric perspective.

Further, Mission LiFE, a vision pioneered by PM Modi places individuals at the centre of driving change in the pursuit of climate action and achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Alongside the summit, a number of Jan Bhagidari activities are being planned, such as a cleaning campaign, a painting and slogan contest, a seminar on SDG funding, a tree-planting push, and a G20 Conclave on innovative investment for climate action.

The hotel for the delegates is embellished with mementos and artwork featuring the lovely city.

On Wednesday, the delegates went on a wildlife safari in the UNESCO World Heritage site known as Kaziranga National Park.  The delegates will also tour well-known locations in Guwahati, including as the Old Governor House and Brahmaputra River Island.
