On late Friday night, police in Margherita and Digboi detained five drug traffickers and recovered a large quantity of drugs, cash, and cars in separate operations.
Four drug peddlers were detained at a residence near the DFO office by a team of police led by Ranjit Bordoloi, o/c of Digboi police station, who recovered 21 grammes of cocaine and Rs 1.10 lakh in cash, as well as a Swift Dzire with registration number AS 01AM 7091. Jitu Hazarika (32), son of Nayan Hazarika of No1 Makum Pathar Margherita, Ajit Bora (31), son of Suren Bora, Jitu Handique (31), son of Arun Handique, and Raju Chetri (37), son of Til Bahadur Chetri of Ideobari Bagan village in Charaideo district, have been identified as the peddlers.
On the same night, Margherita police led by SDPO Partha Pratim Das and o/c Margherita police station, Someswar Konwar, nabbed Akash Dutta, son of Ranjit Dutta of No 1 Makum Pathar Margherita, with a large quantity of drugs, 70 plastic containers, Rs 21,890 in cash, and seized a Maruti van with the registration number AR 11A 7751. Akash, according to authorities, has been involved in narcotics trafficking for several years.
