NEW DELHI: More than 260 trains were cancelled due to bad weather conditions on Monday, the Indian Railways said.
Due to a thick layer of fog that stretched from Punjab and neighbouring Rajasthan to Bihar to Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning, the services were impacted.
A railroads official said that 267 trains, including 82 express trains, 140 passenger trains, and 40 sub-urban trains, had been cancelled. Due to the gloomy weather on Sunday, some 335 trains were delayed, 88 were cancelled, 31 were diverted, and 33 were short-circuited.

Visibility levels dropped to zero metres at Bhatinda and Agra; 25 metres at Patiala, Chandigarh, Ambala, Ganganagar, Varanasi, Fursatganj, Bhiwani, Safdarjung, Ridge, and Bhagalpur, and 50 metres at Hisar, Karnal, Palam, Meerut, Lucknow, Bahraich and Patna.
The Railways also diverted 20 trains on Sunday. Moreover, 46 trains have been rescheduled by the national transporter including Lucknow to Prayagraj Sangam.
Passengers having online tickets will get full refunds in the source account whereaqs those having counter tickets will have to visit the reservation centre to claim the refund.
The weather office defines "extremely dense fog" as fog with a visibility range of 0 to 50 metres, "dense fog" as fog with a range of 51 to 200 metres, "moderate fog" as fog between 201 and 500 metres, and "shallow fog" as fog with a range of 501 to 1,000 metres.
