CHENNAI: Three women who trafficked a girl under the age of 18 from an NGO-run orphanage in Peravallur and forced her into prostitution at a hotel in Kovalam in 2016 have been found guilty and jailed by a Mahila Court in Chennai.
The Anti-Trafficking Cell (ATC) of the Crime Section CID Police initially reported the incident in 2016. The victim, Fathima Mosa, 28, of Chennai, was trafficked, according to the police. In a hotel room in Kovalam, the victim was coerced into prostitution by Marriammal, 49, Sathya, 40, and Tamilselvi, 35.
Senthilkumar, 30, and Magendran, 32, who were employed as the hotel's manager and room boy, respectively, were also named by the police as suspects. A case was opened for offences like forced prostitution, human trafficking, and kidnapping.
The Special Court for the Exclusive Trial of Cases Under the POCSO Act, Chennai, heard the accusations against the defendants. For the prosecution, Special Public Prosecutor Kavitha made an appearance. Mariammal, Sathya, and Tamilselvi were each given a sentence of two life sentences by Special Judge M. Rajalakshmi in this case.
Senthilkumar and Magendran received sentences of seven years in solitary confinement apiece, while Fathima Mosa received a punishment of ten years in prison.
The court also awarded a compensation of Rs.5.00 lakh to the victim
