Tarun Gogoi, who was undergoing the treatment at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital for post-Covid complications, passed away on Monday November 23, 2020. The Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the demise of former Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Tarun Gogoi. In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, "Shri Tarun Gogoi Ji was a popular leader and a veteran administrator, who had years of political experience in Assam as well as the Centre. Anguished by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of sadness. Om Shanti". 

84 year old leader who served as a chief minister for 15 long years from 2001 to 2016 was undergoing the treatment at Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) from November 2. He was admitted of breathlessness complaint, he was recovered from deadly virus in August and discharged from hospital. Leader has released a audio message on November 4 which tells, “Love and affection of the masses, of the youths, students, tea garden workers, farmers of villages, weavers and small traders that I have received... that is the main asset of our political life. And taking forward this as the main asset I shall continue my work in future as well.” 

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called me and inquired about his health condition... People are praying everywhere and I think that is giving him strength... My father has been in the hospital for almost three months now. The doctors have said that many young people don't have the kind of courage my father has shown," an emotional Gaurav Gogoi said.
