Gangtok: 72-year-old former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling celebrated his birthday with his well-wishers and SDF workers at SDF Bhawan on Wednesday. Party workers from different parts of the state reached SDF Bhawan and wished Chamling a happy birthday. The birthday cake was also cut after some songs as part of the birthday celebrations. He personally met and talked to every party worker and well-wisher.

It was one of the rare party acts of such a level that the SDF president refused to deliver a speech. Later the media also raised some questions of the former Chief Minister. He gestured for silence in reply. To the question of his message to the people of Sikkim, Chamling offered 'Namaste' only with folded hands. When asked why no speech or media statement was made. SDF spokesperson Krishna Kharel said the party president wants to spend his special day in a different way with people and party workers.

“Our leaders just wanted to spend their birthdays with the people and get their love. There is no reason other than this. He has been regularly expressing his views and comments on many issues but today, it was a day of celebration and he wanted to celebrate it by rising above party politics. He will interact with the media in the coming days but today it is limited to the day of celebration.
