Former CM Kumaraswamy Criticizes Karnataka Budget, Labels it as "Era of Destruction"

Bangalore: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs staged a protest at Vidhan Sabha over the Karnataka budget 2024 after walking out of the state Assembly during the budget presentation. R Ashok, Karnataka Leader of the opposition and BJP leader, criticized the budget as "bogus" and labeled it an "election budget."

Former CM HD Kumaraswamy echoed these sentiments, accusing CM Siddaramaiah of lacking confidence in his budget speech. Kumaraswamy deemed the budget disappointing for the people of Karnataka, suggesting it heralded an era of destruction. Meanwhile, BJP MLA C.N. Ashwath Narayan accused the Siddaramiah government of indulging in appeasement politics and criticized the budget for its discriminative nature. Narayan asserted that the promises made by the Congress government had not been fulfilled, condemning their use of taxpayers' money for political gain.

In contrast, Congress leader RV Deshpande reiterated the party's commitment to fulfilling their promised guarantees. Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented his 15th consecutive budget, marking a milestone in his political career. Siddaramaiah highlighted the implementation of Guarantee schemes, which he claimed had brought admiration from around the world. He emphasized the positive impact of these schemes on the people of Karnataka, citing examples of their success.

Siddaramaiah also outlined the state's economic growth, with the services and industrial sectors contributing significantly. However, the agriculture sector faced challenges due to severe drought.The 2023-24 Karnataka Budget saw substantial growth, with a significant increase in the budget size, reflecting the government's commitment to holistic development across various sectors.
