Mumbai: The future of the country's oldest political party now seems to be slowly going into darkness. This is because the impact of the Internal Congress battle in the country is now visible in many states. The Congress, an ally in Maharashtra's Mahavikas Aghadi government, suffered a major setback on Wednesday. In Maharashtra, Kripa Shankar Singh, chief leader of North Indians and head of the Congress state unit, has taken over the reins of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

If the speculations in the political corridors are to be believed, Kripashankar Singh's joining the BJP is also considered important as the BrihanMumbai Municipality (BMC) elections are due in no time. For the past few years, north Indians have been the BJP's main vote bank. Singh is likely to add to the party's voters. Singh has joined the BJP in the presence of former CM Devendra Fadnavis and Chandrakant Patil.

Singh had said before joining the BJP, "I left the Congress party on Section 370. The process of its removal could have been opposed, but the Congress should not have opposed its removal. I questioned the party stand, but there was no answer. I am joining the BJP unconditionally."
