Lockdown: Former Congress MLA Satvinder Singh Rana arrested in liquor theft case

Chandigarh: During the ongoing lockdown across the country, Panipat police arrested former MLA Satwinder Singh Rana on charges of liquor theft. Former MLA Satvinder Singh Rana has been arrested for stealing liquor from a sealed warehouse in Samalkha on Wednesday night.

According to information provided by District Police Chief Manisha Chaudhary, former MLA Satwinder Singh has been arrested from the MLA Hostel at Sector-3, Chandigarh. The arrest has been made by the Panipat police team, led by DSP Crime Rajesh Phogat. Prior to the arrest of former MLA Satwinder Singh Rana, Haryana Police had informed the Sector-3 Police of Chandigarh.

A case has been registered against accused Satwinder Singh Rana under sections 457, 380, 406 and 120B of IPC. In the year 2019, Satvinder Singh contested from Kalayat assembly constituency of Kaithal district on Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) ticket. He is also considered close to Haryana Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala. At the same time, in Bihar today, too, illegal liquor has been recovered from a Congress MLA's car, however, during this time the MLA was not present in the car, but his four activists have been arrested.
