New Delhi: Cricketer Yashpal Sharma, who was part of the 1983 world-winning Indian cricket team, has passed away tragically. He reportedly died of a heart attack. He was 66 years old. Let me tell you that he was an explosive middle-order batsman who played during the 1970s and 80s. He was a member of the Indian team that won the 1983 Cricket World Cup, as well as a team India selector. He reportedly breathed his last at 7.40 am.
Yashpal was born on 11th August 1954 in the Ludhiana district of Punjab. He has been a right-handed batsman and bowler. Sharma played a total of 37 Tests and 42 One-Day Internationals in his international cricket career. In which 883 runs were scored in Tests at an average of 33.45 at an average of 1606 and 28.48 respectively. He scored 2 centuries in Tests and 4 fifties in ODIs.
After some extraordinary performances, Sharma was selected in Team India for the 1983 Cricket World Cup. He scored 89 runs in the opening match and India was able to beat the West Indies cricket team in the match. In the semi-final against England, he did well again and scored 61 runs.
