Former DGP Sumedh Saini to be arrested anytime, court rejects anticipatory bail plea

Mohali: Former Punjab DGP Sumedh Saini has suffered a severe setback. A new FIR has been registered against the DGP by the vigilance team under various sections of disproportionate assets and corruption. Saini had filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Mohali court through his lawyer HS Dhanaua. But the court has rejected this application for anticipatory bail. Former DGP Saini may now be arrested anytime in the case.

Additional District Sessions Judge PS Grewal heard the case in the court on Thursday in which the court reserved its verdict for Saini's anticipatory bail after hearing arguments, but the hearing was held again on Friday morning in which Saini's anticipatory bail application was rejected today. Vigilance has arrested Sumedh Singh Saini, Executive Engineer, PWD, Nimrat Deep Singh, his father Surendra Singh Jaspal, Ajay Kaushal, Praduman Singh, Paramjit Singh, Amit Singla under 109 and 120B on charges of disproportionate assets and corruption.

According to vigilance, Sumedh Singh Saini along with Nimrat Deep Singh and others first rented a Kothi in Sector-20D, Chandigarh, and later asked for an agreement on its purchase. While Sumedh Saini has transferred crores of rupees in addition to paying lakhs of rupees rent to Kothi owner Surendra Singh Jaspal's account. Nimrat Deep Singh and his family, named in the case, are accused of consuming more than 35 properties and earnings.
