Mukhtar Ansari, once a notorious gangster turned politician in Uttar Pradesh, was laid to rest in Ghazipur amid tight security measures. Ansari, who passed away in a hospital in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, was buried on Saturday.

Hospital sources revealed that Ansari's post-mortem examination indicated he died of a cardiac arrest. He was rushed to Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda from the district jail where he was serving time, but unfortunately, he couldn't be saved.

His family has raised suspicions of foul play, alleging he might have been subjected to "slow poisoning" during his imprisonment.

To ensure safety, police were deployed along the route from Ansari's residence to the burial ground in Mohammadabad, Ghazipur. This measure aimed to prevent any potential disturbances as people gathered to pay their final respects.

After the post-mortem, Ansari's body was taken to his residence in Ghazipur amidst heavy police presence.

Ansari's elder brother, Sibgatullah Ansari, expressed dissatisfaction with the administration's handling of the situation, claiming they were not informed of his brother's demise directly but learned about it through the media.

A magisterial investigation into Ansari's death has been initiated by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Banda. This investigation will include a post-mortem, which will be recorded by a team of two doctors.

Mukhtar Ansari had a long history of legal troubles. In April 2023, he was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai. Later, on March 13, 2024, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in a case related to the use of forged documents to obtain an arms license in 1990.
