President Droupadi Murmu will award the Bharat Ratna to five outstanding individuals, including L.K. Advani, a senior BJP leader, today. The ceremony is set to take place at 11 am at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Among the recipients, Advani will be the only living recipient. The other four, former Prime Ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh and P.V. Narasimha Rao, agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan, and former Bihar Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur, will receive the honor posthumously.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his happiness on social media about Advani being honored with the Bharat Ratna. He praised Advani's significant contributions to India's development, highlighting his roles as a Deputy Prime Minister and various ministerial positions.

Advani, born in Karachi (now in Pakistan) in 1927, served as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party for a long period and held important positions in the government, including Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure.

Modi also announced the Bharat Ratna for late PV Narasimha Rao, praising his service to the nation and his leadership that contributed to India's economic growth. He also commended Chaudhary Charan Singh's dedication to farmers' rights and M.S. Swaminathan's contributions to agriculture.

The conferment of Bharat Ratna on these individuals acknowledges their remarkable contributions to the nation, marking a moment of pride for India.
