Former Indian cricketer Chetan Chauhan passes away

Former India opener and veteran cricket administrator Chetan Chauhan died on Sunday due to complications of Covid-19. He was 73. PTI said that the news of his death was confirmed by brother Pushpendra Chauhan. Chetan Chauhan had positive symptoms for Covid-19 in July. He was not yet fully recovered when another infection affected his kidneys and caused blood pressure. After testing positive for Covid-19, Chauhan was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi PGI Hospital in Lucknow. He was later taken to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram. On Friday night, Chetan Chauhan's condition worsened, after which doctors gave him ventilator support.

Chauhan has served in various capacities - president, vice-president, secretary and chief selector - Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA), besides being the manager of the Indian team during his tour of Australia.

Chauhan was elected to the Lok Sabha twice from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh in 1991 and 1998 and was honored with the Arjuna Award in 1981. During his 12-year long cricket career, Chauhan played 40 Tests scoring 2084 runs with 16 half-centuries and two wickets. With Sunil Gavaskar, Chauhan scored a superb opening partnership for India by scoring 3000 runs, which included three centuries.
