Former Novartis India Vice Chairman Ranjit Shahani Passes Away

Ranjit Shahani, the former Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Novartis India and Chairman of JB Pharmaceuticalspassed away.
Shahani, a mechanical engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and an MBA graduate from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai, held key roles at Novartis India Ltd. from 2001 to 2018.

His career began with Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in India, followed by progressing to General Manager at ICI Zeneca in the U.K., where he supervised operations in Asia Pacific and Latin America for their petrochemicals and plastics division. Later, he served as CEO at Roche Products Limited before joining Novartis India Limited in 1997.

Beyond his corporate roles, Shahani was actively involved in various organizations. He served as President Emeritus of the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India and President of the Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce India. He also contributed to the Advisory Council of HSPH India Research Centre.

Additionally, Shahani chaired JB Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals and served on the boards of Hikal Ltd and Ambuja Cements Ltd.

His passing is mourned by the pharmaceutical industry and beyond, as he leaves behind a legacy of leadership and contribution to both business and society.
