4 persons arrested for vandalizing Buddha statue

Islamabad: An ancient statue of Gautam Buddha was recovered during the construction work of a house in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Local people said the statue was broken as being un-Islamic. Now the local police has arrested four people in this case. Local people said that the historic statue was damaged on the orders of the cleric.

Police have registered an FIR under the Antiquity Act and arrested four suspects. Giving information, police officer Jahidullah said that, 'Construction workers were digging water lines. During this time the employees got this idol. We have arrested the contractor Qamar Jaman and his employees Amjad, Aleem and Salim in this matter. We have also recovered some broken parts of the statue from them.

Let us tell you that this action has taken place after the video related to the case went viral on social media. In the video, some people were seen smashing the statue with a hammer. Giving information, a senior official of the tourism department said that as soon as the authority of the video surfaced, the police was informed about the matter and asked to take immediate action against the culprits.
