Hyderabad: Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, in response to a question on fisheries in the state, said that after the formation of Telangana, the government is promoting fisheries in the state in a big way. To increase fish production and livelihood of fishermen in the state, fish seeds and prawns were stocked with 100% subsidy. He said, fish farming will start soon after installation of sewage treatment plants in several lakes of the city (Lotus Pond, Banjara Lake and Lake View Park etc.).

Yadav said around four lakh metric tonnes of fish production was expected during 2021-22 at an estimated cost of Rs 5,600 crore. The government proposes to stock 93 crore fish seeds in 28,704 water bodies and 10 crore prawns in 200 selected water bodies in 2021-22. The fish production has increased significantly over the years due to the water flowing into the barrages under the Kaleshwaram project.
