Women to travel free of cost in city service buses on Raksha Bandhan

Patna: On the day of Raksha Bandhan, 22nd August, the Transport Department of the Bihar government is going to give a special gift to women. In Bihar, women will be able to travel free of cost in city service buses of Bihar Pradesh Road Transport Corporation on Rakhi day. That means they will not have to pay any fee to travel by bus on rakhi day. Women will get the direct benefit of this.

Sheela Kumari, Minister, Department of Transport, Government of Bihar said that a special facility will be provided on Raksha Bandhan to encourage women's participation in city service buses and safe travel. Free travel on Raksha Bandhan occasions has been requested by several organizations. Bihar Government Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said a total of 125 city service buses are being operated in the capital by Bihar Pradesh Road Transport Corporation.

It has 70 buses CNG and 14 electric buses. All these buses will have a completely free bus service for women and girls on Raksha Bandhan day. It may be noted that women are already being given special discounts in monthly passes for traveling in city buses. With this, 65 percent of seats in all buses have been reserved for women. CCTV cameras have been installed in the buses and other facilities have been provided so that women can feel safe while traveling in buses.
