Olivier Veran, the French Minister of Health, has revealed that he has tested positive for Covid-19. After experiencing mild symptoms, he had performed both a self-test and an antigen test. According to the Xinhua news agency, he was notified on Wednesday via the French phone app TousAntiCovid (Everyone Against Covid) that he had made contact with a positive case.
Veran announced on his social media account on Thursday that he would go into self-isolation and work remotely. The French Ministry of Health also revealed on Thursday that at least 600,000 individuals would lose their health permits on January 15 due to a lack of booster shots.
According to the Ministry of Health, 15.2 million people have gotten the booster injection by Wednesday, out of a total of 15.9 million who are eligible. Meanwhile, a strike by 77,500 teachers over the school health protocol is underway. According to the Ministry of Education, 136 protests took place around the country, with 8,200 people protesting in Paris alone.
On Thursday, France reported 305,322 new Covid-19 cases detected in the past 24 hours.
