Indore: The Story of Chief Guest of NRI Summit Chandrika Prasad Santokhi’s struggles is very inspiring.  On the second day of the 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Sammelan held in Indore, the cleanest city of the country, PM Modi addresses the program today i.e. on Monday (January 9) where the NRIs from 70 countries participated. Suriname President Chandrika Prasad Santokhi was invited as the chief guest of the ceremony. 

Chandrika Prasad Santokhi was born on February 3, 1959, in Lelydorp, Suriname, the ancestors of Chandrika Prasad Santokhi belonged to Bihar. Last year, on Pravasi Divas, President Chandrika Prasad addressed the event virtually. He started his speech by saying 'Ka Haal Ba', this gesture won the hearts of Indians. His father came to Suriname as a laborer from Bihar and worked at the port. Whereas, his mother used to work at a shop. He has nine brothers and sisters.

 In 1978, Chandrika Prasad received a scholarship to study at the Netherlands Politea Academy in Apeldoorn. He did his graduation in Applied Research in 1982. After this, he trained for four years at the Police Academy in the Netherlands. He returned to Suriname in 1982 and started a job in the police department. In 1989 he got recognization for his work, he was then appointed as the Director of the National Criminal Investigation Department and two years later in 1991, he became the Chief Commissioner of the Police Department. 

Chandrika Prasad Santokhi served as the Minister of Justice and Police in 2005 and took over as the President of the Progressive Reform Party (PRP) in 2011. After this, he got married on 19 July 2020. In July last year, the National Assembly elected former Justice Minister Santokhi unopposed as the President of Suriname. When Chandrika Prasad Santokhi was elected the President of Latin American country Suriname, he took oath in Sanskrit language instead of English, It became a topic of discussion all over the world. Suriname is the country of 6 lakhs peoples, out of the total population 27.4 percent is of Indian origin. President Santokhi's party represents the Indian community and his party was once called as the United Hindustani Party.
