Kolkata: West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee has again pitched for forming an opposition alliance to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Today i.e. on Friday (May 5) in the Shamsherganj assembly of Murshidabad, CM Mamta targeted the BJP and gave a message regarding opposition unity. She said, 'All opposition parties should unite. Fight one on one. I will try to work together.'

Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee has appealed to all the anti-BJP parties of the country to unite to stop the BJP's victory and has said that she is in favor of one-on-one fight. Let us tell you that CM Mamata Banerjee has been seen playing an active role in forming an opposition alliance against Modi many times before. Mamta Banerjee, who became CM for the third time in Bengal in the 2021 assembly elections, was engaged in creating anti-BJP opposition unity. She had also visited Delhi and held several meetings with the leaders of the opposition parties. At that time, Mamta Banerjee had also met prominent Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, but that initiative was not successful.

Following the victory of the Left-backed Congress candidate in the Sagardighi bypoll in Murshidabad on March 2, an "outraged" Mamata Banerjee had said that there would be an alliance between the TMC and the Janata. Her party will contest the elections alone. At that time, the movement to form a third front without Congress had started in central politics. But, now CM Mamta's style has changed and she is saying that she is in favor of opposition unity to defeat BJP and she will try to work together for this.
