Mamata Banerjee Pledges Relief for 21 Lakh Unpaid MGNREGA Workers

West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, declared on Saturday a significant move to support 21 lakh neglected MGNREGA laborers in the state. She assured that funds would be directly transferred to their bank accounts by February 21st. Banerjee initiated a 48-hour protest in front of the BR Ambedkar statue in the city, pressing the Centre to disburse "pending dues" for various social welfare programs.

"We refuse to plead to the BJP for help or handouts. By February 21st, we'll ensure that money reaches the accounts of 21 lakh laborers who've toiled for three years without receiving payment for their work under the 100-day employment scheme," Banerjee declared passionately from the protest site.

She further affirmed her party's determination to confront the BJP vigorously in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

In separate news, Mamata Banerjee, initiated a two-day protest in Kolkata, urging the release of owed payments under the MGNREGA and PM Awas Yojana schemes. Simultaneously, she has addressed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the CAG report and the non-submission of utilization letters, a concern raised by BJP state President Sukanta Majumdar.

Tomorrow, the protest will be joined by MGNREGA beneficiaries who have been awaiting wages for approximately two years. Additionally, potential beneficiaries of the PM Awas Yojana will join the demonstration.

Following the initial 48 hours, various branches of the Trinamool Congress, including youth and women's wings, will continue the protest, led by Banerjee herself. She has announced that from February 5th to 14th, the youth and women's wings, along with representatives from different districts, will continue the demonstration.
